Gang-Nail Truss Co., Inc. 1440 N Shirk Rd, Visalia, 93291 - (559) 651-2121
Company Profile
Founded in 1959, Gang Nail Truss Co., Inc was one of the pioneers in the component industry. Founder, A.V. Munson (Uncle Muns) arranged franchise rights with then Automated Building Components (now Mitek) just 4 years after Cal Juriet mailed the patent for the “Gang Nail” metal connector plate to himself in July of 1955. Fifty years later, at Mitek’s customer appreciation dinner in October of 2005, ten Gang Nail representatives were among the hundreds who witnessed that envelope unsealed as a remembrance and tribute to this pioneer inventor who founded the company that is now recognized as preeminent in the industry, and which joined the Berkshire Hathaway family of Companies in 2003.
Gang Nail is likely the oldest Mitek fabricator, having left our mark on 6 decades of California building projects, and still operates from the original (though now expanded) Visalia industrial park location in the heart of central California. A closely held second-generation corporation; we have the flexibility to exercise our innovative spirit, networking and sharing ideas with fellow fabricators across the country. We continue what Uncle Muns considered a pillar of long-term business success-- supporting the industry, as he did by serving on the board of Truss Plate Institute.
His son Charlie upheld that responsibility for many years, serving on the board of the WTCA (Wood Truss Council of America). At the state level, Tim Rouch served for a term as president of CalESCA (Engineered Structural Components Association,) and is now approaching his 10th year of service to WTCA, a very effective association, which has given national voice to the component industry. Industry efforts have done much to make housing more affordable, provide flexibility to encourage design innovation, and greatly improve structural integrity. Homes and buildings are now far better able to withstand the forces of nature, including earthquake and wind, and numerous firefighters throughout the nation are better equipped to save property and lives, thanks to research and training materials sponsored and provided by WTCA.
In addition to national service, we believe Gang Nail is further distinguished from local competitors by exceptional quality and experienced service, sensitive to the needs of our builder and developer clients. The Sales force and Design team are highly knowledgeable, qualified for commercial, multi-family, tract, or single house projects. Drawings and calculations are generated with cutting-edge Mitek software, and sealed by registered engineers. Components are manufactured by personnel who share in the profits and take pride in “getting it right.” A variety of production lines provide the ability to meet wide-ranging architectural and structural needs, and a production team willing to “do what it takes” working overtime and Saturdays when necessary, give us the capacity to cover volume demands of large-scale builders. Our own company fleet, including a boom truck, transports directly to the job sites giving us great flexibility to meet scheduling needs.
We pay special attention to quality, recording and classifying every incident for review with the appropriate work group and by the Executive Committee at regular monthly meetings. WPCA-certified lumber graders sort and grade each piece of lumber to insure the sawmill “allowed” percentage of off-grade lumber is downgraded, and that only appropriate chord material is used in our products.
We have earned a reputation for exemplary after-delivery customer service with quick response and a “solve the problem” attitude. Our team has several decades of truss experience, including addressing a wide variety of field situations, and has access to the full time services of a structural engineer. We can remedy job-site problems with maximum efficiency and minimum expense, which leaves time for “spot checks” when not responding to direct customer concerns. Jobs in progress are visited not only to assure our own quality, but to educate job-site personnel with regard to truss handling, installation techniques, watching for bearing points, bracing, special loading requirements, and other information relative to the use of our product.
Every member of the Company is made aware of the importance of the contribution each one makes, the importance of teamwork, attitude, safety, watching out for each other, and doing it right. Our orientation and training week covers far more than the basics of building trusses. We let trainees know they are joining a family, and that their actions will reflect on the family. We provide an atmosphere where growth and ideas are encouraged, where everyone is treated with respect, but expected to contribute on a higher plain than “average.” and where ownership accepts the responsibility to give back to the community a portion of the blessings bestowed on us by our Maker.
